Over the past several years there has been an influx of Omaha Photographers. Gobs of Newborn Photographers, nationally. Gobs of people saying they one of Omaha Photographers. With all these Omaha Photographers among us, who is a legit Photography Studio? Are they Incorporated or do have a L.L.C.? Do they have a State and Federal Id? Do they pay sales tax and not just collect it for extra profit? IF not, this is known as Tax Fraud and it is against the law and those people are committing a Federal Crime! Next, is there a profit for them? The majority of shoot and burn photographers that sell a disc of all the images for $50-$100 are not a legitimate ‘business’? They don’t understand a business and pricing for a profit. Business 101 is to make a profit. A legitimate business has monthly overhead such as utilities, marketing, office/studio supplies, business insurance, professional equipment costs and maintenance, costs of goods, maybe employee salaries, payroll taxes, sales tax, the regular cost of running a business and still make a profit.
The time that is put into a photo shoot is surprisingly quite a bit. A quick breakdown, as a legitimate Omaha Photographer we have the cost of getting the lead, talking with the client to make sure we are a good fit for each other, preparing you (the client) as well as the Omaha Photographer preparing for the session, the session itself (set up and tear down), culling down the images, color correcting, light edit, presentation of the images to the client at the ordering appointment, preparing the order with quality and a detailed retouch by hand to each image, the delivery and follow up of an order. All in all a typical family session has roughly 8-9 hours as a conservative amount put into it to make sure each and every client is completely satisfied.
A quick breakdown of $100 session with all the images. Typically, people will charge what they know they are worth. By the end of the session for them they are making or making less than minimum wage. Not only are they probably committing tax fraud, they are not making any money. Is it a hobby, if there is an exchange of money it is not a hobby. If they slap on a watermark they are ‘in business’… so they think.
Next, and most important for the client are the images quality images? Most likely they are not. Can you tell? Are their images you look at and for some reason you just like that image but you don’t know why? Largely, it has to do with the composition, most importantly the light. An Omaha Photographer knows that the word Photography means writing with light. LIGHT is what will make and break an image.
I have spent and do spend countless hours perfecting my craft. I enroll in workshops that will help me become a better Omaha photographer. Ways to improve my skills. New ways to work with light. I have a mentor. I brush up on business skills and marketing. I run a legitimate business, I have a Corporation, a Federal Tax ID and pay monthly sales tax. All these things cost. My skills benefit my clients. The images they receive are a given they will love them and they will be awesome images they will cherish forever. You will never regret having a Omaha Newborn Photography Session, Omaha Child Session , Omaha Senior Picture or Family Photography Session with us! I want each client to have a great experience. I aim to please and I want to always be their one and only Omaha Photographer. To work with a legitimate Photography Studio give us a call at 402.619.6117.
